Shelby Soccer!

While Karen volunteers with theater productions, I love soccer! I am a licensed soccer coach and have coached girls soccer teams of various ages for over 10 years. The team pictured in this photo was a special year for me since TWO of my daughters were on the team (Alexandra #2, Brittany #6, and me on right). Head coach Frank Zarate led this team to a fantastic season. Go Shelby Soccer!

Our daughter Alexandra worked last semester as an intern on Capitol Hill for our congressman, Pete Hoekstra. (Pete is now the frontrunner in the polls to become the next Governor of Michigan!) Alexandra is now back at college preparing for study abroad in Europe next semester.

I received my MBA in Finance at the University of Chicago in 1990. This is where Alexandra was born. Karen and I are enjoying a sunny Spring day in early 1990.

Shelby HS Show Choir Performs at the Frauenthal!

This is the Shelby High School Show Choir preparing for their performance of "Thriller" at the Muskegon Frauenthal Theatre. They represented Shelby very well last week in this performance at "Showcase". My daughter, Abby, is third from the right. Karen helped with their hair and makeup.

My youngest daughter, Halle, attends Benona Elementary. Here she is with friends at their school Halloween party. Halle is on the right as the Cat in the Hat. Next to her are Katrina Smith, Natalie Fox, and Ashley F.

Hablo Espanol! (I am Fluent in Spanish)

He visitado Mexico y Honduras muchas veces y me encanta visitar alli cuando puedo. La cosa que me gusta mas es el futbol!

Shelby School Video

This is an excellent video about Shelby Public Schools. I appear in the video in the first 15 seconds as a proud parent expressing my great satisfaction with our schools. I also appear a little after halfway through the video speaking about how SHS helped prepare my daughter for college.

Shortly after that is my favorite scene - Soccer! In the "sports" section of the video, a scene shows Ashley Hoekenga taking a corner kick for a spectacular header goal. Ashley is also seen in the first 5 seconds of the video doing an amazing flip throw-in, a rare skill for a high school player. Go Shelby Soccer!

Remembering 911

Having worked on Wall Street and fearing I had friends in the rubble of the World Trade Towers, I was able to go volunteer in the search effort the next day (9/12/01). This is a link to the news story:
